Although there is a long list of essential oils that can help alleviate headaches, a few of the most popular are:

Eucalyptus: Eucalyptus essential oil is a power anti-inflammatory, as well as an expectorant. It is especially helpful in alleviating sinus headaches.

Lavender: Lavender essential oil is helpful when caring for a headache during the evening hours and has as it has powerful sedative properties. It is also a well-known anti-inflammatory.

Roman chamomile: Roman chamomile essential oil is similar to lavender in the sense that it has both anti-inflammatory and sedative properties. It is especially beneficial when used at night.

Peppermint: Peppermint essential oil contains a high amount of menthol which is known to help relax muscular aches and pains, therefore making it beneficial for tension headaches. Because peppermint oil has stimulant-like properties that may interfere with your sleep, it is recommended to use it only during the daytime hours.

Spearmint: Spearmint essential oil is similar to peppermint as it contains high amounts of menthol, although not as much as peppermint. If peppermint oil is not available to you, spearmint is a good substitution.
